Revolutionizing Architectural Visualization: The Lifesize Plans – Bordeaux (France)
In Bordeaux, France, a groundbreaking Lifesize Plans project triggered by Alice Da Silva, Owner & CEO of Lifesize Plans-Bordeaux, in collaboration with ARTCOM DIFFUSION, has reshaped the landscape of architectural visualization. Lifesize Plans, a visionary concept brought to life with the aid of state-of-the-art projection technology, has redefined how stakeholders interact with architectural designs. Spearheaded by the renowned expertise of Bastien LEANDRI and ARTCOM DIFFUSION, empowered by GeoBox, this endeavor has set new benchmarks in precision, efficiency, and user experience.
Benefits
Lifesize Plans: A Visionary Approach to Architectural Visualization
How much are you willing to pay to make sure everything is properly tailored right before putting in a €40k kitchen that you’ll use every day for the next 20-30 years? I think €200-€400 sounds fair. Your new headquarters is set to be the new landmark of the city, seen by hundreds of thousands of people each day, and it’s likely to become a part of their everyday memories. Wouldn’t you agree it makes sense to “see” it before it’s built?
While “creativity” is undeniably a core competence for an admired architect, visual technology, specifically architectural visualization, has had a transformative impact on modern architectural development..
Originally founded in Australia by Chris Ghaleb and now expanded globally through licensed franchisees, offers an innovative solution. The mantra, “Bring your plans and future project to a real-life experience before you put $1 on construction,” explains all. By leveraging integrated projection technology, Lifesize Plans provides stakeholders with a comprehensive view of architectural designs, surpassing traditional blueprints and static renderings. Every aspect of the project, from upper floors to external landscapes, is depicted in meticulous detail at a true 1:1 scale.
This visionary approach not only ensures precision and efficiency but also enhances the user experience. Clients can interact with the projected designs, gaining insights that transcend what traditional methods can offer. Lifesize Plans empowers stakeholders to make informed decisions, mitigating risks and maximizing the potential of architectural projects.
In essence, Lifesize Plans revolutionizes architectural visualization, offering a cost-effective and immersive solution that aligns with the importance of getting it right – especially in high-stakes endeavors where significant budget or investment is concerned.
Spearheading Excellence in Video Integration: ARTCOM DIFFUSION
With over a decade of dedicated commitment to video integration and mapping, ARTCOM DIFFUSION has etched a lasting legacy characterized by its relentless pursuit of overcoming significant challenges. When tasked with pioneering Lifesize Plans in France, ARTCOM DIFFUSION’s reputation for technical mastery and groundbreaking innovation positioned them as the undisputed choice.
Established in 2003 and headquartered in Avignon, ARTCOM DIFFUSION has emerged as a leading technical service provider for shows, specializing in audiovisual solutions, architectural image projections, corporate conventions, and the conception and execution of pioneering concepts in the industry.
Navigating Challenges: From Concept to Execution
The journey to realize Lifesize Plans – Bordeaux was not without challenges.
Bordeaux is the second city in France to implement Lifesize Plans after Avignon. The team involved in this project had high expectations.
Though the solution implemented in Avignon initially proved successful, it was overly expensive and excessively complex for the project’s needs. Bastien’s team was immediately tasked with finding an alternative that met the project’s objectives.
Like all projects, the Bordeaux project had clear time and budget constraints. Amid these challenges, a decisive moment occurred when Jean-Luc Perrier, Technical Director at Sidev, entered the picture. An ardent supporter of GeoBox from its inception in the French market, Jean-Luc introduced Bastien to a transformative alternative – the GeoBox solution.
Simple yet Powerful: GeoBox
The introduction of GeoBox changed and streamlined the given technical configuration, providing an ideal blend of cost-effectiveness and functionality specific to the project’s needs. With features like warping, blending, and 4K direct input along with daisy chain capability, the hardware centric GeoBox solution stood out as the definite answer for Bordeaux and more projects to come. Simple yet powerful, GeoBox aligned perfectly with extremely high robustness without sacrificing performance.
Engineered as a solid-state hardware solution, GeoBox is built to carry out the demands of continuous operation in 24/7 working conditions. On any project site, you’ll find a bustling environment filled with equipment, tools, cables, and construction materials. Technical professionals require the flexibility to configure settings with ease, ensuring that every aspect of the solution functions as intended. GeoBox is made to collaborate with nearly all content sources (players) and display technologies, offering a reliable solution that simplifies complex video processing tasks with minimal hiccups.
More challenges and solution: Precision and Easy maintainence
The original technical framework set forth a strict requirement: precision with an unprecedented margin of error, allowing only a 1cm tolerance across the entire projection area. This demand, along with a pixel size of 4mm, highlights the meticulous attention to detail required by Lifesize Plans. Meeting this challenge required a careful approach to projector alignment and calibration, ensuring that every projected dimension met the rigorous standards established.
To illuminate several hundred square meters of floors and walls, 12 high-brightness projectors from Christie were professionally installed.
The traditional method of mounting projectors, which involved multiple installations across the ceiling, posed a significant challenge. Environmental fluctuations such as temperature and humidity in buildings required constant adjustments, disrupting workflow efficiency. Bastien and his team addressed this issue by developing a centralized projector framework, reducing the need for daily interventions.
The consolidation mitigated the impact of environmental factors. Stability and consistency were achieved using GeoBox’s user-friendly warping feature, accessible via a GeoBox PC tool or a remote controller. As a result, only occasional adjustments were needed throughout the year, ensuring sustained performance.
The key to success: User-Centric Design to Promote Accessibility
The key to the success of Lifesize Plans was ensuring user accessibility and ease of use. With this in mind, Bastien and his team combined GeoBox with a user-friendly interface, enabling smooth control of projectors and video sources. This dedication to a user-centric design meant that stakeholders could easily navigate the system, which promoted collaboration and improved the overall user experience.
The Intriguing Future of Architectural Visualization
In Bordeaux, Lifesize Plans stands as a testament to innovation and collaboration, setting a high standard for incorporating technology with commercial results. Aided by the technical expertise of ARTCOM DIFFUSION and the advanced technology of GeoBox, this project goes beyond conventional limits, providing stakeholders with an immersive view into the future of architectural design.
As Lifesize Plans continues to grow its presence in France and beyond, it signals a new era of experiential visualization where imagination converges with reality in extraordinary ways. Thanks to the joint efforts of Bastien LEANDRI, ARTCOM DIFFUSION, Sidev, and GeoBox, Lifesize Plans has not only transformed architectural visualization but also established a benchmark for collaborative innovation.
