Immersive projection installation in Switzerland

MatrixWorks Europe and it’s Swiss distributor MediaSolutions have supported Kollektiv Beton to build an immersive projection installation—SKIES, shown at BaseCamp of Locarno Film Festival from 4-12 August 2022. SKIES is a walk-in video installation. It takes visitors on a journey through familiar environments that become distant galaxies. The 30-minute loop is viewed while lying down – in the midst of a sound composition that unfolds through sixteen channels into a three-dimensional acoustic space. In its unique form of presentation, SKIES is intended to amaze people and enrich the world of Expanded Cinema.

The walk-in construction consisted of two horizontal circles. The larger circle on the floor provided reclining area for the audience who could lie down and watch to the upper circle stretched screen. Two Fujifilm short-throw projectors were placed at the edge of the circle on the floor and projected to the upper circle screen. GeoBox M802EX edge blending controller was utilized to blend and map the projected images in special shape with input source coming from by BrightSign media player.

“We were looking for a long-lasting and simple enough solution that enabled us to create different projection mapping for different build ups by ourselves.” explain Nathalie Kamber and Rebekka Friedli, founders of Kollektiv Beton. “We are happy to find GeoBox, which offers all we need in one single tool, so we don’t need to hire a 3rd party person to render content using special software program every time when we are in different venue.”

“The support from MatrixWorks Europe and MediaSolutions was amazing. With every problem they helped us. Even shipping in nearly no time was doable for them. We are very happy about the support.”
