Edge blending projectors
Edge blending projectors are projectors used for displaying images on a larger scale than normal projectors do. Putting two projectors next to each other and lining up the screen doesn’t work well. Edge blending function is then needed for “video wall setting” (properly crop and position image to the right place), and color alignment. There are various ways to achieve edge blending: you can choose projector which has edge blending function built-in, or use media server with software based edge blending function as your content source, or using hardware edge blending box.
What does Edge blending projector do?
Edge blending takes multiple projected images and visually combines them to make it seem like one big seamless image. This way you can display images on a larger scale without ruining the display. Edge blending projectors are also used to increase the resolution of your display, combining multiple devices with a lower resolution and overlapping them creating a clearer image. Edge blending is not always needed but it is something to look for in a projector as big horizontal or vertical images give an impactful look and grab people’s attention. They are generally used for environmentally neutral surfaces in education, government, business and museums/ galleries.
Why use edge blending projectors instead of lining up projectors?
Lining up multiple projectors to create a bigger image is called butting because the images are butted next to each other. This might seem easier at first but it definitely is not. Different projectors work differently and their displays look slightly different making your images that you put together all look different and thus never seamless. Even when using projectors of the same brand and the same model you will still find differences in the display which will become more apparent the longer you use them. You will spend more money buying multiple projectors and you will spend a lot of time lining up the projectors perfectly. The projectors are likely to overlap making it messy. Edge blending projectors are the better choice when displaying a larger image. When your images don’t blend in together and you can see the seams or for example the difference in brightness. Your viewers will be distracted by the imperfections. They are a great investment!
