8K input timing support in all GeoBox solutions

Why do you need 8K resolution and what is system resolution?

In the article “How to display a large image using multiple projectors?” , we explained that picture quality is perceived according to viewing distance and pixel pitch. While, pixel pitch is calculated by dividing the image size with system resolution.  But what is system resolution? It isn’t just about your projector or source resolution.  It equates to the lowest resolution resulting from the whole system: from signal source, controller, transmission devices like connectors and cables, all the way to projectors. That is, if your input resolution is only full HD or 4K, you are not going to have higher than 4K system resolution even you edge blend multiple projectors with native 4K resolution.

When system resolution is limited at 4K, if you want to have good enough image quality on a 10m wide wall, pixel pitch will need to be kept at no more than 2.5mm, so user can watch at minimum 2.5 meter away. However, if system resolution can be increased to 8K, the finer pixel pitch allows for improved imagery from shorter viewing distance and improves larger, multi-projector display images. (Refer here for 8K input timing setting procedure.)

8K input timing is supported in all GeoBox models

In order to support increasing demand of 8K system resolution, 8K input compatibility has been brought to the complete range of Geobox solutions, – with multi-projector projection mapping solutions benefitting greatly – increasing from the previous supporting input maximum of 4K2K@60hz to 8K2K@30hz*.

Previously, if display systems required 8K quality, input sources needed to be cropped into at least two 4K chunks, with overlaps created in advance – which added extra work and complexity to project implementation. The GeoBox 8K support means that creating 8K multi-projector projection systems will no longer be complicated.  See demo in the article “Epson x GeoBox 8K/4K demo event“.

Before and after comparison

8K compatibility

*UD100 series and M800 series (including G116) support input of max 8K2K@30hz or 5760×1200@60hz or 4K2K@60hz.  All the rest of models support input of max 8K1K@30hz or 4K2K@60hz.

Our products

GeoBox has a series of non-PC hardware edge blending boxes for the use of combining multiple images from multiple projectors.  The pure hardware solution makes projector edge blending and warping more affordable and user friendly, with integrators able to adjust outputted images in real time without pre-editing and without the need for expensive, PC-based software control. For product information, please visit edge blending product page here or use our product finder tool in chat-bot.  If you are interested to be updated about our new products, please follow us on twitter and LinkedIn.  If you have any questions or need suggestion, please feel free to contact us on info@matrix-works.eu.  We are happy to help you!
