A Journey into Immersive Aquarium: The Deep (Hull, UK)

In the vibrant city of Hull, East Yorkshire, where maritime history and culture converge, The Deep stands as a testament to the wonders of marine life. However, it’s not just the aquatic marvels that make this place exceptional. It’s the immersive experience it offers, crafted through a remarkable partnership between GeoBox, Epson, and the visionary team at Visual Display.

The Genesis of Innovation

GeoBox (by VNS Inc.), a team fueled by an insatiable passion for pushing the boundaries of video processing technologies. We had already made our mark globally with a groundbreaking project in Tokyo, hailed as the largest and most magnificent immersive exhibition in human history. This achievement garnered immediate recognition from AV professionals worldwide, firmly establishing GeoBox as the preferred solution provider for Epson projects.

Hull: The Canvas of Ocean Dreams

As our collaboration with Epson flourished, the stage shifted to Hull, East Yorkshire. This city, with its rich cultural heritage and maritime legacy, provided the ideal backdrop for our new, audacious venture. Amidst the historic charm of Hull, The Deep emerged as a symbol of the city’s commitment to marine preservation and education.

Epson's Visual Brilliance

Epson, a global leader in projection technology, played a pivotal role in The Deep project. They introduced the Epson EB-PU1006 series projectors, equipped with unique wide-angle lenses promising unparalleled optical performance. The installation expertise of Visavvi, a trusted partner, ensured seamless integration into The Deep’s architectural marvel.

GeoBox: Masters of Video Control

Epson’s hardware provided stunning visual brilliance, while GeoBox played a critical role in video control. VNS technology ensured that The Deep’s visual experience exceeded all expectations.

There are two GeoBox solutions behind the great optical settings:

  1. The G802 provides 2-channel video control to ensure a harmonized picture is projected by 2 display devices. At Deep, the G802 is used for one of the main themes, Jellyfish, and for visually striking pillar/column projections.
  2. The 3-channel edge blender M803 (new M813 is available now) is used for the most eye-catching Wavewall.

You can see both settings in the video below. Thanks to its purely hardware-based framework, GeoBox coordinates immersive displays that leave millions of visitors in awe year after year.

Visual Display: The Architects

Leading the charge was Visual Display, a renowned system house led by pro AV trendsetter Greg Jeffreys. With their expertise in AV solutions, they undertook the colossal task of orchestrating The Deep project. Their passion for innovation and unwavering commitment to excellence resonated perfectly with the ethos of GeoBox and Epson.

This collaboration between tech giants was more than just a fusion of hardware and designs; it was a testament to the power of partnership in the AV industry. Together, we shared a common mission: to create an immersive experience at The Deep that would captivate visitors of all ages and backgrounds.

The "Deep" Experience

As The Deep project continues to mesmerize and inspire, it serves as a reminder that innovation knows no bounds. In Hull, where maritime history converges with cutting-edge technology, GeoBox and Epson have united R&D’s passion and expertise to create an immersive masterpiece. The Deep isn’t just an aquarium; it’s a voyage into the depths of the ocean, made possible by the fusion of technology and artistry.
