Immersive Gaming Experience of Pokémon Go

Project location: Hyundai Department Store Pangyo, Korea

Pokémon Go's Popularity

How does Pokémon Go relate to immersive gaming? Pokémon Go has taken the world by storm since its release in July 2016. The mobile game has become one of the most downloaded and played games ever, with millions of active players worldwide. The game taps into the nostalgia of the popular Pokémon franchise and has a dedicated fan base spanning multiple generations. It fulfills a childhood dream for many fans by allowing them to capture and collect Pokémon in the real world.

Immersive Technologies in Gaming

In 2016, you probably still remember the game made headlines worldwide as hundreds of thousands of players gathered at specific public attractions to catch rare Pokémon. The game encourages social interaction through real-world exploration and creates opportunities for players to connect. After six years since its debut, a group of top-level proAV engineers brought Pokémon Go players’ gaming experience to a higher level. Thanks to immersive technologies, players are literally “in the game.” Technicians converted images that exist in your memory into the sensual reality that you can see and interact with. This takes place in renowned Hyundai Department Store Pangyo, known as the most fashionable district nearby Seoul, Korea.

How ProAV Engineers Use Immersive Technologies to Bring Pokémon Go to Life

The use of immersive technologies blurs the line between physical reality and digital reality. In this remarkable project, GeoBox technology is once again embedded. Due to the scale of the exhibition, preparations took months before installations on site.

To ensure the highest project standards were met, technicians among the most experienced in the Korean proAV industry handled all image alignments. They were supported by GeoBox Korean partner Electrosmith, directed by Mr. Albert Kim. The project comprises of 2 large venues, divided into 16 blocks. 20 high-end projectors were used in order to beautifully cover the entire space.

Electrosmith's Contributions to the Pokémon Go Exhibit at Hyundai Department Store Pangyo

The Korean partner of GeoBox, Electrosmith, did an excellent job once again. As Pokemon trainers ourselves since the game launched, we would love to participate in such a project.
